Former Lancaster ISD Superintendent Dr. Larry Lewis Consults for Cedar Hill ISD

Assists Interim Principal at Bessie Coleman Middle School

Cedar Hill, TX. – April 2, 2010 – Former Lancaster Superintendent Dr. Larry Lewis is now a consultant for the Cedar Hill Independent School District.  He has been assigned to handle the vice-principal discipline duties at Bessie Coleman Middle School and assist Interim Principal Phyllis Phillips.

Ms. Phillips became interim Principal at Bessie Coleman after the former principal resigned for family reasons.

Dr. Larry Lewis resigned as superintendent of the Lancaster School District in July 2009 following concerns in the LISD business office.  A Lancaster ISD school district audit that was submitted to the Texas Education Agency last month showed that LISD had a fund balance for the 2008-2009 school year of $3 million dollars.  “That audit vindicates me,” Dr. Lewis said.  “I have never done anything unprofessional in my career as an educator and administrator.  When I left Lancaster ISD we had six recognized schools and 3 schools rated as satisfactory.  I consider it a privilege and an honor to have this opportunity to use my expertise to assist the Cedar Hill School District.”

As a consultant focusing on discipline at Bessie Coleman, Dr. Lewis says he focuses on helping students who need to be disciplined with improving their academic skills.  “Discipline is not about punishment, it is about academic success,” Lewis said.  “Most students act out because they are doing poorly academically.  I think it is just as important to help students who need discipline to succeed academically.”

According to Bessie Coleman Middle School Interim Principal Phyllis Phillips, Dr. Lewis has been a positive presence during his first two weeks on the campus.  “He has been focusing students on academics instead of being mischievous.  He has been building a rapport of trust with not only students, but their parents.”

About Cedar Hill ISD:  The Cedar Hill Independent School District has 8300 students.  It has an AA- financial Standard and Poor’s bond rating.  Cedar Hill Independent School District has five Exemplary schools, four Recognized schools and five Academically Acceptable schools.
