After 14 years of serving Life School families, Founder and Chancellor Dr. Tom Wilson will retire effective July 2012. It was through Dr. Wilson’s vision and pioneering spirit in serving the community that Life School was established in 1998 as a tuition-free public charter school.

Dr. Wilson’s desire in founding the school was to capture the hearts and minds of children, in order to protect them from senseless violence, and to give them a compelling sense of purpose. He felt this could be accomplished daily by instilling excellence in moral, social, and academic standards. That is why Life School campuses begin each day celebrating attributes of good character as well as academic excellence. Thus, Life School’s mission is to train leaders with life skills for the twenty-first century by establishing strong academics, character training and a parenting program.

The first Life School campus opened in Oak Cliff in August 1998 with 266 students and 15 staff members. Today the T.E.A. Recognized District serves approximately 4,000 students with 400 staff members on five campuses.

Life School Superintendent Brent Wilson and his executive team have planned several events during the spring semester to honor Dr. Wilson. Superintendent Wilson assures parents and constituents, “Life School’s focus will always be to provide a holistic approach to education – promoting development in five core areas: moral intelligence, emotional intelligence, academic excellence, social intelligence, and physical fitness.”

As Dr. Wilson says, “It’s not just school. It’s LIFE!”
