Cedar Hill Collegiate High Students Make College Honor Society

Cedar Hill, TX. - April 22, 2009 - 29 students at the Cedar Hill Collegiate High School will be inducted into the Cedar Valley Community College Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on Sunday April 25, 2010.  The program will be held on the Cedar Valley College campus at 3030 N. Dallas Avenue in Lancaster in E building Performance Hall at 3pm.

Of the 29 high school students who will be inducted into the Cedar Valley College Honor Society, 4 have maintained a 4.0 grade point average. Three of the students will be sworn in as officers of the Phi Theta Kappa Society on Sunday. In the fall of 2009, 12 other Collegiate High School sophomores were inducted into the society. Almost half of the 91 members of the sophomore class have become members of the Cedar Valley Honor Society this school year.  The Collegiate students earn college credits while attending high school.

"I am extremely proud of the students for achieving the honor and distinction of becoming members of Phi Theta Kappa," said Usamah Rodgers, Collegiate School principal. "Their hard work and determination exemplify our campus motto; Pride, Purpose and Perseverance."

Steve Mason, President of Mas-Tek Engineering agreed to sponsor any Phi Theta Kappa candidates who could not pay the honor society induction fee before the deadline. He sponsored six students. "The students have worked so hard to achieve this honor and I wanted to make sure they could share it with their classmates at the Honor Society induction ceremony on Sunday," Steve Mason said.

This is the second year for Cedar Hill Collegiate High School which started with ninth graders last year. Now it has ninth and tenth graders. The Collegiate High School has been rated exemplary by the Texas Education Agency. The high school also received a 10 out of 10 rating from GreatCitySchool.net. Cedar Valley College professors come to the high school campus to teach the freshmen and sophomores on Tuesday and Thursdays.
