Cedar Hill ISD Hearings on Middle School Boundaries

New Realignment Proposal follows Beltline Road

Cedar Hill, TX. - February 20, 2012 - The Cedar Hill Independent School District is asking for public input on a proposal to realign the boundaries for Permenter and Coleman Middle Schools. The public hearings are scheduled for Tuesday February 28 and Thursday March 8, 2012. Both public hearings will be held at 7:00pm at the Cedar Hill High School Performing Arts Center located at 1 Longhorn Blvd. in Cedar Hill, TX. 75104.

The proposed new realignment boundaries for the middle schools follow the new boundaries for the two intermediate schools that took effect in the 2011 -2012 academic school year. The proposed boundary line will follow a fairly straight east-west line created by FM 1382 / Beltline Road / Mansfield Road. Students who live north of the proposed boundary line will go to Coleman; students who live south of the line will go to Permenter.

"One very compelling benefit of the proposed middle school realignment is that a student may enter grade 5 and continue all the way through grade 12 with the same set of friends," explained Kim Lewis, CHISD Chief Operating Officer. "Because of the alignment of the elementary school zones, a very large percentage of Cedar Hill students can begin at Kindergarten and stay with their same friends through grade 12. Another benefit of the proposed zone change is that the two middle schools will be much better balanced in student enrollment."

Students, who are currently in the 7th grade and reside in the striped area on Map B, will be allowed to select which campus to attend for the 8th grade during the 2012-2013 school year. Current year 6th graders would enroll in the 7th grade for the 2012-2013 based upon their residence according to Map A.

The Cedar Hill Independent School District had to realign the intermediate school zone boundaries after state budget cuts in 2011 forced CHISD to close Beltline Intermediate School. The school district lost 3.5 million in state funding that year.
