Early morning crash on Loop 12 kills man, snarls traffic for hours

A 28-year-old man was killed this morning when he rear-ended another car on Loop 12 in Dallas, police said.  The crash shut down Spur 408 and backed up traffic in southwest Dallas for several hours during the morning commute.

Arturo Delacerda was heading north near the junction with Spur 408 about 4 a.m. when he collided with a gold van, said Lt. Scott Walton, a Dallas police spokesman.

Both drivers lost control of their vehicles, and Delacerda's car slammed into a retaining wall. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The van's driver was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center and is reported to be in good condition.
